Apples have this delicate shade of gold when they are fresh.
Here are a few recipes that use this fruit.
. Cook 1 1/2 cups sugar and 1/2 cup water in a saucepan over medium heat, swirling, until golden.
. Off the heat, stir in 1/4 cup cream and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla and salt.
. Cool mixture slightly.
. Insert wooden sticks into 4 apples; dip in the caramel.
. Set on oiled parchment paper to harden.
. Whisk 1 1/4 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon baking powder in a bowl.
. Add 1/2 teaspoon of salt, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg.
. Shred 1 apple and whisk with 2 eggs, 1/2 cup each vegetable oil and milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
. Fold into the flour mixture.
. Bake in a buttered 9-inch-round pan at 180°C for 20 minutes.
Big Apple Cocktail.
. Chop 2 apples and let them drain in whiskey overnight; strain.
. For each cocktail, shake 1/4 cup of the apple whiskey, a bit of sweet vermouth and a bit of cherry (or rasberry) juice in a shaker with ice.
. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with an apple wedge and sugar.
. On both slices of cereal bread, add a layer of honey (or cranberry sauce)
. Add slices of apple and bits of brie cheese.
. Drizzle with a bit of oil and add nuts of wanted.
