Watery Casual Friday.

For me watery evokes of course water, liquids. But more to this it also brings feelings and emotions linked to these watery elements. Peace, relaxation, sensuality. Water has been an important source of inspiration for many artists since the romantics to contemporary artists and of course designers. Moreover the the sea sides, Italian coasts, the Hamptons, Miami, have been the original source of different kinds of lifestyles. Gianni Versace made water the main theme of his Miami’s Villa. He wanted to incorporate all aspect of Italy where he originates. Mixing kitsch and baroque styles with at the centre the blue and watery references to the beautiful Italian coasts.

In music, divas like Dalida and Lana Del Rey took the watery background as an inspiration. For Dalida in Love in Portofino and Lana Del Rey in her music video Blue Jeans in which water takes a sensual and erotic aspect.

The big names in fashion understood the attraction that water can have on people and created a link between luxury goods, water and sensuality as these two commercials from Dolce and Gabbana and Chanel can show!
Speaking of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld is one of the first to make the “croisière” collections a big fashion event. Each year the Chanel Croisière show is one of the most awaited time of the fashion weeks. In 2011 he decided to dedicate his show to St Tropez in south of France. He actually did the fashion show in the old harbour of the city next to the water!

Fashion designers took the myth of the classic mermaid as an inspiration to re-invent a modern mermaid made of silk and sequins. Here are some looks from our good friends where the myth comes to reality and emerge from the flows of fashion!
