Fashion has the power to transport you to a different era only by the choice of clothes. But it is also obvious that fashion is a nostalgic art as the fashion mantra “Fashion hates what was loved once”. I would say that fashion goes back to three main eras in history, the 20’s, the 50’s-60’s and the 70’s-80’s. This is obvious in a few great designers’ collections. Here are some inspirations if you feel nostalgic of one of these time periods.
The 20’s are synonym of hard work but also the slow start of the liberation of women in their fashion choices and the masculinisation of their closet. It was an age of luxury and ostentation! Giorgio Armani in his 2013-2014 Fall-Winter collections, perfectly reflected that era.

The 50’s and 60’s are the re-interpreted era in fashion probably because there were huge changes in the domain at that time. Here are three designers revisiting the sixties in their own manners and the interesting point here is that the nostalgia of that era is coming back even if these three collections are two years apart from each other! So this show how recurrent the theme is in the fashion world.

The 70’s and 80’s are the hippie period per excellence. Their was a strong drive for freedom back then. The concepts of genders were confused and that allowed a lot of innovations in the creation of clothes and how people chose to wear it. Why can’t a woman wear men’s clothes? Why can”t a man wear women’s clothes? Women took control over their body and decided to choose for themselves what was appropriate or not? Their was a true liberation of the individual at that time!
